If you can save SEK 2,500 a month, starting from zero, with an assumed annual return of 5% after tax and fees.
How to get started
Write a simple plan: diversification, low fees and SEK 2,500 a month. Review the plan once a year.
Make the plan your own
- Establish your starting point. Write down after-tax income, fixed expenses, debts and emergency savings. Use actual figures, not wishful thinking.
- Test the idea on a small scale. See whether saving SEK 2,500 each month is sustainable. A lower amount you can maintain is better than a plan you have to abandon.
- Review after three months. Compare results with the plan, include costs and tax, then adjust. Income, sales and net worth are different things.
What you need to keep in mind
A simple plan does not remove market risk. Do not borrow to finance the savings.
What does the timeline mean?
The example starts at zero and adds SEK 2,500 at the end of each month. The assumed annual return of 5% is converted into an effective monthly rate. Under these assumptions, the example first passes one million kronor after 19 years and 10 months.
The return is assumed to be after tax and fees. Real markets move unevenly and can produce losses. Tax depends on account type, assets, applicable rules and personal circumstances. Preparation, training, initial costs and time before income becomes available are not included. The contribution is a scenario, not an estimate of what you will probably earn or save.
One million here means nominal Swedish kronor, not pounds, euros or dollars. Inflation may reduce future purchasing power. Property, pensions and business holdings are not the same as available cash. Legal and tax references concern Sweden unless stated otherwise.
